Little Debbie the Crack Dealer

From Toxic Fat by Dr Barry Sears:

Sugar Addiction
One of the most disturbing side effects of our increasing dependence on cheap carbohydrates with a high glycemic load is that we may be becoming physically addicted to them. This was demonstrated in a 2007 study in France in which cocaine-addicted rats were offered access to super-sweetened water using a combination of an artificial sweetener and sucrose. Within three days, the cocaine-addicted rats switched their allegiance from cocaine to the super-sweetened sugar water. It turns out that glucose can activate dopamine receptors much alike cocaine. But unlike cocaine, there are no adverse effects on the sympathetic nervous system. If the rats get a hit of glucose, they gain the effects of cocaine without the downside of increased nervousness. Since cocaine is one of the most addictive substances known, guess what happens when humans get the same hit on their dopamine receptors by constantly eating sugar? They become addicted, and they go into withdrawal if they can't get it quickly. The processed food industry ensures that will never happen.

It's never easy breaking yourself away from sugar. Like Dr. Sears mentions, your body will go into withdrawals much like a dope-fein in rehab. I personally found that after two weeks with out processed foods and sugars that your body stops craving them. Has anyone ever tried giving up processed food and sugar? How long did you last? How did you feel? How did you feel after you re-introduced them to your body? Anyone willing to give up sugar for two weeks? Post thought to comments.
